IMG_4191 - Osprey sitting in a tree top (Super Zoom)

Osprey sitting in a tree top (Super Zoom) waiting for a fish of the appropriate size to swim by... dinner time! And yes, I saw him swoop... and catch dinner. About a 10" rainbow or cut throat trout.Ok - I'm using a 35-350mm "L" lens... with an EXII Canon Pro Doubler (700mm), on a 50D (1.6 conversion factor) = 1120mm, with a 60% crop = approximately 1792mm zoom. This shot was freehand and manual focus, which is really a challenge with this setup. If the subject isn't moving, or at least not fast, then you have a pretty good chance of some great shots. Frankly a tripod really helps. If the suject is moving toward (or away) from you quickly, then the challenge is pretty expodential if you are freehanding and trying to manually focus this setup. It's times like this that I miss the old 'split focus' screens on SLR's.This 'guy' was about 300 yards away... what do you think??
